18TH Japan Brazil Binational Forum & 3rd Environmental Disaster Research Seminar

18TH Japan Brazil Binational Forum & 3rd Environmental Disaster Research Seminar [Urban and environmental disaster issue in Brazil, and its potential solution
【Focus 】
Although Brazil is recognized as a leader in concern over environmental issues, the country is on the frontline in the battle between civilization and the environment, with a large amount of urban pollution released from the city into natural catchment zones. In addition, rapid economic growth has caused serious degradation of tropical forests in the Amazon Basin area. One of the most striking examples was the 2015 collapse of the Bento Rodrigues reservoir, which released a huge amount of mining waste into the local river, which flows into the Doce River and finally the Pacific Ocean. Despite, or perhaps because of these challenges, Brazil is extremely advanced in the Ecological field, having introduced bio-ethanol as automobile fuel before any other country in the world, and showing strong leadership in the field of natural resource management.
In this forum, we present Brazilian urban and enviromental issues with a focus on Mining in the State of Minas Gerais and associated environmental disasters, followed by a presentation on global-scale perspectives on water resources and environmental disasters.
